Rewriting AI Text to Human

While proofreading, editing, and humanizing AI, the editors at Editly have become experts in the art of humanizing AI text. In the series, “How to Humanize AI Text,” they draw on their experience to provide insights into how to humanize AI. In this post, we take on a question that we answer every day for our clients around the globe—“How to rewrite AI text to human?”.

ChatGPT Text Response to “How to Rewrite AI Text to Human?”

Rewriting AI-generated text to make it sound more human involves several key steps. Here’s a guide to help you refine AI content and give it a more natural, personalized touch:

1. Understand the Content

  • Read Thoroughly: Start by understanding the content thoroughly. Know the main points, arguments, and the flow of information.
  • Identify Key Messages: Pinpoint the central messages or themes to ensure these remain intact in the revised version.

2. Adjust Tone and Style

  • Tone Adjustment: Match the tone to the intended audience. For instance, a formal tone might be suitable for academic or professional texts, while a conversational tone works better for blogs or articles aimed at the general public.
  • Use of Voice: Shift from passive to active voice where appropriate. Active voice often makes sentences clearer and more direct, which is more natural for human writing.

3. Enhance Readability

  • Simplify Language: Replace complex words or jargon with simpler alternatives to enhance clarity and accessibility.
  • Vary Sentence Structure: Mix short and long sentences to create a more engaging and dynamic rhythm, mimicking natural speech patterns.

4. Add Personal Touches

  • Incorporate Personal Pronouns: Use first-person (“I”, “we”) or second-person (“you”) pronouns to create a direct connection with the reader.
  • Include Anecdotes or Examples: Adding personal anecdotes or relatable examples can make the text feel more tailored and engaging.

5. Improve Flow and Coherence

  • Transitional Phrases: Use transitional words or phrases to connect ideas smoothly and logically.
  • Check for Flow: Read the text out loud to ensure it flows naturally. Listening to the rhythm and cadence can help identify awkward phrasing or inconsistencies.

6. Edit and Proofread

  • Spelling and Grammar: Correct any spelling and grammatical errors to maintain professionalism and readability.
  • Repeated Review: Sometimes, a single review isn’t enough. Re-read the text multiple times, possibly refining it gradually with each pass.

7. Seek Feedback

  • Peer Reviews: Getting feedback from others can provide insights into how your text is perceived and any areas that might still feel robotic or unnatural.

8. Use Tools Wisely

  • AI Assistance: Tools like Grammarly or Hemingway can help polish the text, but rely on your judgment to decide when AI suggestions fit the context and when they don’t.

By applying these steps, you can transform AI-generated text into something that sounds distinctly human, making it more appealing and relatable to readers. (385 words)

The AI Text vs the Humanized Text

Famed author Francois de La Rochefoucauld once observed that "As it is the mark of great minds to say many things in a few words, so it is that of little minds to use many words to say nothing." Judging by this standard, ChatGPT definitely falls into the latter category. In fact, due to its training on poor writing, the ChatGPT response to our question weighed in at a bloated 385 words.

Conversely, our humanized version is only 253 words—or more than 34% shorter than the AI text. We achieved this reduction primarily by eliminating unnecessary repetition and redundancy. Or, in other words, by saying many things in a few words.

The Takeaway

You, too, can practice the above skills and become proficient at humanizing AI texts. But, if you would like an experienced helping hand, then don’t wait to get started on Editly.
